"The Water Pollution Fighters"
General Information:
Sediment interceptors (traps) have been used successfully in thousands of institutional, industrial and commercial drainage systems, as practical devices for preventing solids from entering the drain, waste and vent (DWV) piping systems. Without the use of such interceptors, solids that may enter the drainage piping system (e.g., plaster, clay, hair, jewelry, metals, plastics, papers, stones, fibers, etc.), would interfere with normal effluent drainage or sewage treatment and cause costly pipeline stoppages or loss of valuable materials. As a result, most state and local plumbing and environmental codes now call for the installation of sediment interceptors for improved drainage and pollution control.
T&C rigid-plastic interceptors are superior to cast iron, steel or aluminum interceptors in many ways. As an example of their superiority, T&C interceptors are completely manufactured (inside and outside) of acid-resistant materials. Metal interceptors require special, costly coatings and/or treatments to be rendered acid or corrosion resistant. T&C interceptors also can come with optional union connections at the inlet and outlet fittings - this allows the interceptors are much lighter in weight, larger in capacity, easier to install, easier to maintain, won't rust, etc. as compared to metal interceptors.
Construction:
T&C sediment interceptors come standard as cylindrical shapes with integral flanges on top; each interceptor comes complete with gasketing, matching cover with nuts and bolts, threaded inlet and outlet fitting connections and removable basket unit with removable perforated baffles. All components are constructed of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), virgin polyolefin, rigid-plastic materials. This HDPE material features excellent properties, such as high temperature resistance, high chemical resistance, good rigidity, superior strength, low cost, etc. the HDPE polyolefin materials used by T&C conform to ASTM material specification D1248-70. Black color is added for ultraviolet (UV) resistance. The standard threaded fitting connections (inlets and outlets) permit the interceptors to be adapted to any pipping system (e.g., plastic, cast iron, galvanized, brass or glass piping). The T&C optional union connections at each inlet and outlet eliminates the need for additional space above the interceptor (as required by metal interceptors) in order to remove the sediment basket, for maintenance purposes.
